It’s the 4th of July and wherever you are I hope that you’re finding time to spend with friends and family, enjoying parades, baseball and all of the other things that we Americans have turned into our Independence Day traditions (like eating too much and drinking too much).
I’m celebrating with some “chosen family” at the seashore.
We’re in a quintessential New England beach town which once upon a time was home to a boardwalk second only to Coney Island’s for seaside entertainment (back before Enoch “Nucky” Johnson created Atlantic City from a New Jersey swamp).
Yesterday we took a ride on the last remaining piece of the original amusement park – an 88 year old carousel that’s slowly being refurbished, but has been in continuous use since 1928.
Today we’re going back for some skeeball,
maybe some mini-golf, and definitely some steamers and beer.
Later this evening, we’ll head back into the city to watch one of the country’s grandest fireworks displays on the Charles River Esplanade, accompanied by the Boston Pops. (C. C. Cedras will be watching the big kahuna on the National Mall in DC! Fingers crossed the rain holds off!)
What are you doing on this glorious day? Be safe and be festive!

Raining buckets in Blacksburg with flood warnings out until tomorrow morning. Rain predicted for the next 5 days so think we will be “celebrating” indoors! Chili for hotdogs is simmering and luckily we have a covered grill area. Doubtful that the festivities (lawn concerts and fireworks) will be happening here! Y’all will have to celebrate on our behalf. Have a great Fourth of July!

Two of my favorite cities for celebrating our freedom and patriotism – Boston and DC! I love the 4th of July traditions that we celebrate and are creating – with my favorites. And am thankful for the sacrifices made so that I may do so ;). Enjoy all! Fingers crossed that there will be a break in the rain and storms in DC for optimal enjoyment of the big kahuna…if not, maybe tomorrow? Hugs!!!
