It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like…
28 Monday Nov 2016

…well you get the idea. Good morning and Happy Cyber-Monday, all! I hope all of my American friends had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Now that it’s over, we all know what that means, right? It’s time for the Christmas rush to begin!
I’m sure there are a lot of folks who think it’s still too early to think about hauling out the decorations, baking the cookies, wrapping the presents, etc. On the other hand, there are always folks who dive right in, whether it’s due to time constraints, the vagaries of the family diaspora or they are just too excited to wait a moment longer. (Those people usually have small children. Or they are the adults who will be clad in a different ugly sweater every day and will definitely have light-up antlers on their heads at the Christmas party.) I’m usually firmly planted among the former.
You may recall how much I hated the idea of retailers attempting to push the boundaries back to Labor Day and I still say that’s just nutty. So it might seem a bit odd that despite the fact that it’s still not yet December, I’m more than happy for the season to arrive.
Before the leftovers were gone, my friends and I had a tree up and decorated.
Morty is already waiting for Santa.
I even have my wreath on my door!
At the risk of being pelted with virtual rocks, I have approximately ¾ of my shopping done. (No, nothing is wrapped.)
This year is different, for so many reasons, but I’m of the opinion that you should decorate, shop, wrap, bake, sing carols, etc etc etc, if you feel like it – because if you feel like it, chances are you’re feeling it. And by it, I mean the spirit of the season, no matter how that spirit manifests itself and you choose to celebrate.
So, how long do you wait before trimming the tree? Do you have a traditional day or custom that marks the holiday season? Are you, too, hip-deep in silver and gold or have I lost my marbles?

Wow that is quite early 🙂 But such a lovely tree – and like you say, if you feel like it, then go for it! 🙂
We used to put our tree up a week or two before Christmas when I lived in UK, but here in CT, where it is Summer!, we tend to put it up a day or two before. 🙂

My father’s side of the family always waited until Christmas Eve and were appalled at my mother’s side which put theirs up willy-nilly LOL. Where you are, I can certainly understand waiting until the last minute. It’s hot! 😀

Ah we all have our traditions. In the Southern hemisphere it has always seemed daft to me to celebrate Christmas and the ‘return of the sun’ in mid-summer in December, when the sun Finally starts going away again.
– On second thoughts, maybe that Is cause for celebrations! 🙂

My tree has been up since last week, but only today am I starting to load it with eggs (those who know me, know I have several hundred egg ornaments of all sizes, from 1 inch to 7-8 inches). 🎄 In my case, this is due to time constraints because I have house guests coming on Thursday, and I want to be DONE! All the other decorations, inside and out are finished………some shopping is complete, but, like you, nothing is wrapped. Gah. 🎁🛍

I was just telling someone about the eggs this past weekend, but I know my description didn’t do them justice. Hopefully we’ll get a pic of the end result! 😀

It’s almost done, thank God. I’ll get pics!

Sigh. You all make me feel so ‘Bah Humbug’. I am so not feeling IT at the moment. I have started Christmas shopping but feel like I am just ‘going through the motions’ because I need to get it done. Maybe I just need to get into training for it. Perhaps I’ll go and buy myself some mince-pies (and cream) to practise on over the weekend . . .

Well, the pies are an excellent idea no matter how you slice it! (And you do have plenty of time before we have to worry about you turning into “The Grinch”)

Sally, some years are like that, as I can attest. I think a fair amount of my motivation comes from planning for a big family gathering at my house this Christmas. Hasn’t happened in a Dog Year. Speaking of dogs. Fergus has been paying very close attention to the tree decorating process and even has his own ornament, so that helps!
