Please enjoy this little holiday bon bon – a New Year’s Eve vignette featuring our MFCs: Kenna, Candace and Frankie.
*************
“What are you wearing tonight?” Kenna asked as she admired her new French Manicure.
Candace sank deeper into the massage chair and made ‘jazz hands’, “Sparkles!”
“Whatever I have in my closet that matches the shoes,” Frankie said between sips from the straw she was using so as not to crack her mud mask.
The spa day was essential. The dresses they would wear that night were important, certainly, but nothing compared to the extravagant creations that would adorn their feet. The trio raised their complimentary mimosas in a salute to the score they’d made at a Barney’s “After-Christmas Sale” earlier in the week, “To the shoes!”
Later that evening, as the man-mountain-in-a-sport-coat held the velvet rope aside for them, they sashayed into the club and up to the bar.
They ordered martinis and clinked their glasses together for the first toast of the evening. The music was pumping, the lights low, the strobe lights and disco ball setting the mood to party. The drinks kept coming, either because they’d ordered for themselves or they were sent by eager admirers. Each woman was beautiful alone, but together, there were no words…and tonight they were turning it on full bore.

Out on the dancefloor, Kenna made a ‘T’ with her hands to call ‘Time’ then pulled Candace and Frankie back toward the bar. Four men made room for them, probably because they were drunk enough to believe that there was the potential for more than small talk shouted over the din. On any other night, they might have had a prayer, but the three beautiful women, shimmering under the neon lights of the club, weren’t interested. This night was for them. They were each other’s New Year’s Eve dates.
Kenna leaned toward her friends and pointed toward her wrist as if there were a watch on it, “It’s almost midnight!” Frankie blew a noisemaker at Candace in response.
Candace batted it away from her nose and yelled, “Should we go outside and watch the ball drop?!”
They downed their drinks then raced to get their checked coats and made it to the edge of the crowd in Times Square just in time to hear the crowd chant, “five, four, three, two, one…HAPPY NEW YEAR!!”
The three women became a laughing, cheek-kissing, many-armed mass of puffy coats, sequins and glittery paper tiaras.
As the huddle broke, while brightly-colored confetti rained down on their heads, someone (no one would remember who it was exactly) asked, “Next year, can we do this someplace warm?”
Happy New Year to you, dear readers, and to those you hold close. May it bring you health and much happiness. See you next year!
