Good morning and Happy Monday!

It’s my first day back at work after my extended holiday vacation. I know I said something, late last year I think it was, about how the days were then stretched out before me, but that I knew I’d soon be wondering where the time went. Today is that day.

After three weeks with no pre-dawn alarms going off, this morning’s bells, which I have set to gradually increase in volume in order to slowly and gently nudge me from my slumber, seemed like the signal for a three-alarm fire, rudely jolting me out of bed and into my boots.

As if to add insult to injury, it was a mere 9 degrees outside as I made my way to the subway, the cold a literal slap in the face, and a definite sign that it was time to get back to normal and back to reality.

(an oldie but a goodie)

My fellow travelers and I, all bundled up like Claude Rains in The Invisible Man, finally made it to campus which was covered in a beautiful blanket of freshly fallen snow. And then I was nearly run over by a Bobcat snowplow. That’ll teach me to stop to enjoy nature in all her loveliness before it’s trampled into slush – at least before coffee. I stumbled to my office, blinded as I was by the winter sun hitting all that white stuff.

My office mates were certainly happy to see me. They showed their love by stockpiling all sorts of work for me to do first thing. How kind!

It’s now after eleven and I’ve almost made it through my email in-box. (I really did try to keep up with it while I was out of the office. Unfortunately, it’s like a game of “Whack-a-Mole”.)  Luckily, the students are still away, so it should be “relatively” quiet.  I just have to get through this week and then…wait for it… next Monday is a holiday! I believe I timed that pretty well. Am I a genius or what?

How’s your week shaping up? Big plans or is it back to business as usual? In any case, have a great week everyone and keep warm!
