Good morning and Happy Monday, the most hated day of the week. That is a sweeping generalization, I realize. What if Monday is actually your Friday? Not everyone works the typical five day week, starting on Monday and ending on Friday, or even the same schedule two weeks in a row. What if you have a job that you enjoy so much that you are the last to leave on Friday and cannot wait to get back to it on Monday? (Those people are probably as rare as unicorns and if they do exist, are more than likely viewed with suspicion by coworkers.) There are exceptions to every rule, but I feel confident in saying that out of the seven, Monday is the most dreaded, loathed and detested.
Now that we have that covered, I’m sure you can guess where I am right now. That’s right, I’m standing at my desk. (Well, alternately standing and sitting. There’s an app for that.) The coffee’s not cutting it, especially since I spilled half of it. I need something else to put the pep back in my step! I need tunes!
So, first to Pandora I turn to find the musical motivation to at least carry me through lunch time. Then I realize I’m too techno-challenged to share them with you and move on to YouTube. That said, I don’t think I ever realized just how many songs have been written about this particular day of the week. I wasn’t even looking, but there they were.
My top five:
5. Rainy Days and Mondays – The Carpenters
4. Manic Monday – The Bangles
3. It Sure is Monday – Mark Chesnutt (This reminds me of my two-stepping/line-dancing days – yes in the 90s everyone was doing it – even in Boston)
- Monday Morning – Fleetwood Mac
- I Don’t Like Mondays – Boomtown Rats
Honorable Mention: Blue Monday – New Order. This one isn’t really about Monday, but it’s more than seven minutes worth of a pervasive techno-beat to which I cannot help but move. This one’s good ANY day.
Now, of course, I’m on to True Faith, The Perfect Kiss and Bizarre Love Triangle. Since I’ve obviously gotten myself into a nostalgic mood, let’s keep it going with a little Dead or Alive and The Power Station. Now I’m hip deep into OMD and everyone in my office is wondering why I’m dancing like Molly Ringwald in the Breakfast Club…
*Sigh* I suppose I should get some work done.
What are you listening to this fine spring morning? Anything in particular have you revved up and raring to go?
